This was the first edition of U-19 women's world cup organized by International Cricket Council (ICC) and was held in South Africa. 

There were 16 teams in total viz Australia, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, USA, England, Pakistan, Rwanda, Zimbabwe, Ireland, Indonesia, New Zealand, West Indies, India, Scotland, South Africa and UAE.
